Articles of Association of the "Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company"
Know all men by those presents:
That under and in pursuant of the provisions of an Act of the Legislature of the State of California entitled, "An Act to provide for the Incorporation of Railroad Companies, and the management of the affairs thereof, and other matters relating thereto," approved May 20th, 1861, and the several acts of said Legislature amendatory of or supplementary thereto, the subscribers hereto have formed a Corporation for the purpose of purchasing, owning, constructing, maintaining and selling the railroad hereafter named and do hereby make, publish and declare these their Articles of Association in the records following, that is to say:
Article 1st
The name of this Corporation shall be the "Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company"
Article 2nd
The number of years the same shall continue to exist shall be fifty.
Article 3rd
The amount of the Capital Stock of this Corporation shall be Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars <$750,000> divided into shares of one hundred dollars each share.
Article 4th
The number of Directors to manage the affairs of the Corporation shall be seven and the names, and places of residence of those who shall manage the affairs through for the first three months or until the election of others as shall be provided by the by-laws of the Company are:

Article 5th
The names of the places from and to which the purposes Railroad is to be constructed are the town of Folsom in the County of Sacramento, State of California, and he City of Placerville in the County of El Dorado in said State. Article 6th
The names of the Counties into and through which the purpose Railroad is intended to pass are the County of Sacramento and the County of El Dorado, both in said State of California.
Article 7th
The length of the purposes Railroad, as near as may be, will be forty miles.
In Testimony of all of which we, the undersigned, do hereby subscribe to the foregoing Articles of Association are named and the amount of stock taken by us respectively in said Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company, San Francisco, December 16, 1869.

whose names are subscribed to the annexed Instrument as part as thereto personally known to me to be the individual described in and who executed the said annexed Instrument, and who acknowledged to me that they executed the same freely and voluntarily, and for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.

Be it Remembered that on the Sixteenth day of December A.D. 1869 personally appeared before me the undersigned a Notary Public, duly commissioned and sworn, in and for said City and County of San Francisco, Charles E. McLane, Lester L. Robinson and Jonathan Hunt, who are each to me personally known to be the Directors and Subscribers whose several and respective names appear in and are subscribers to the foregoing Articles of Association of the "Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company" and thereupon each for himself being for me first duly sworn on oath says: that stock of said Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company has actually and in good faith been sub scribed for, to the amount of at least one thousand dollars for every mile of the Railroad purposes to be built by the said Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company to write Stock amounting to Forty Thousand <$40,000> Dollars has been subscribed by the members said Company and ten per cent on the amount of the Stock subscribed as aforesaid has been actually and in good faith paid in cash to Charles E. McLane
the Treasurer appointed by the subscribers, Directors named in said Articles of Association from among their number and that the subscribers to said Articles of Association are all known to each of the affiants herein named Directors of said Corporation to be subscribers thereto and to be the persons they and each of them respectively represent themselves to be
