Mr. Sargent, by unanimous consent, presented the memorial of the Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco, on the subject of subsidizing an Australian steamship line; which was referred to the Committee on Commerce and ordered to be printed.

Colonel Bee was part of delegation that met with President to encourage him to appoint Senator Williams to Cabinet.

and we hereby certify, That the objects for which the Corporation is formed, are:
The purchase and acquisition of lands on the Navigator Islands, and the cultivation, sale, lease or otherwise disposal of the same. The formation of a Coaling Station, for the U. S., N. Z., & H. Mail Steamship Line in accordance with letters of agreement between W. H. Webb and J.B. M. Stewart and the establishment of a Central Polynesia Depot to be connected with the various groups of islands in the South Pacific.

James Neylan was affiliated with A. Gorman & Co.
Collie, Stewart & Co. was located at 38 California Street.
George Collie's residence was Australia. J. B. M. Stewart's residence was Brooklyn.

" Patea a centennial history" Page 103 indicates the following about George Francis Sherwood, " After an abortive effort to run a Pipe and Tile factory in 1883,Mr Sherwood left Patea and New Zealand for the U.S.A. and Samoa, where, with his daughter, he was very popular and was given Apia Harbour and a large tract of land. Luck was still against him and the Privy Council contested his ownership. He died in London in 1895 while trying to establish his claim to the land".
